Gravy Recipe – Easy, From Scratch, No Drippings

Ingredients: Gather 2 tablespoons of butter, 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour, 1 ½ cups of chicken or vegetable broth, ½ cup of milk or heavy cream, salt, and pepper to taste.

Melt Butter: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter until it's bubbling.

Add Flour: Once the butter is melted, sprinkle the flour over it. Stir continuously to combine the flour and butter, cooking for about 1-2 minutes until the mixture turns golden brown and develops a nutty aroma. This creates a roux, which will thicken the gravy.

Gradually Add Broth: Slowly pour the chicken or vegetable broth into the saucepan, whisking constantly to prevent lumps from forming. Continue whisking until the mixture is smooth and thickened.

Simmer: Allow the gravy to simmer gently for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it reaches your desired thickness.

Add Milk or Cream: Pour in the milk or heavy cream, stirring until well combined. Simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes until the gravy is heated through and creamy.

Season and Serve: Taste the gravy and season with salt and pepper as needed. Remove from heat and transfer to a serving dish. Serve hot over mashed potatoes, roasted meats, or any dish of your choice.
